Lincoln City FC's Midfielders

SHANE CLARKE
Born: 7th November 1987 in Lincoln.

Previous clubs: Grantham Town and Stamford.

Signed: July 2006.

Shane Clarke was one of eight youth team players who were offered professional terms at the end of the 2005/06 season.

He is rated as a good prospect for the future and is even tipped as a future captain of Lincoln City FC should his development go as planned.

Clarke has all the ingredients required for an influential midfielder including being a good passer of the ball. He is willing to defend as well as being eager to support the attack.

His leadership skills are improving and considering Lincoln City's current shortage of midfielders, Clarke could well make his first team debut sooner rather than later. He already has some first team experience having played for both Grantham Town and Stamford while on work experience from Lincoln City.

The shortage of midfielders did indeed give Clarke his opportunity as he made his debut for Lincoln City on 5th January in a 2-0 away victory at Rochdale. Unfortunately, he was dismissed during his second match for the club! To his credit, he battled back to regain his first team place despite this setback. He was reward with a new one-year contract that keeps Clarke at Sincil Bank until June 2009.

Clarke struggled to win a regular first team place during the 2008/09 season although he did end the season as a regular. This was sufficient for Lincoln to offer Clarke a new two-year contract that he accepted.
