Richard Butcher To Stay At Lincoln City
5th February 2010
Transfer-listed Richard Butcher appears to want to stay
at Lincoln City and fight for his place.
It has been revealed that Butcher has rejected a
severance deal to terminate his contract with the club.
Lincoln City manager manager Chris Sutton has told BBC
Lincolnshire: "Richard Butcher is a problem because
of his wages. He doesn't seem to be overly keen on moving
on in any shape or form."
It is a sad state of affairs as this is Butcher's third
spell at the club; there was tremendous optimism from
fans when he re-signed in summer 2009 on a free transfer.
Unfortunately, he has not yet shown the form that made
him a vital part of Keith Alexander's squad that
contested several play-off campaigns.
Maybe this is the reason that Sutton has dropped him from
the first team, as Butcher has not played since 24th
November and seems unlikely to feature again for some
time even though we do have an injury crisis.
Butcher's contract runs until the end of the 2010/11
season. It would be nice to think that he will get
another opportunity in the Lincoln City first team
thereby recapturing the form that showed under Alexander.
Meanwhile, fellow transfer-listed midfielder Sam Clucas
has also been offered a severance package.
