Last week, The Forgotten Imp reported how Richard Butcher
was set to stay at Lincoln City FC; today, he has had a
change of heart.
This afternoon, Butcher has joined Macclesfield Town on a
month's loan and is set to make his debut for Town in
their match against Rotherham United tonight.
Butcher has been on the transfer list for over a month
and last played for Lincoln's first team on November 24th
2009.
On Friday, Imps' boss Chris Sutton stated that
"(Butcher) doesn't seem to be overly keen on moving
on in any shape or form."
In fact, the midfielder has rejected a severance deal to
stay at Sincil Bank.
Macclesfield are managed by former Lincoln manager Keith
Alexander; this is the third time that Alexander has
signed Butcher in his career. A goal scoring midfielder,
who according to the Macclesfield Town Official site -
and I will not disagree - "knows the right half of
the League Two table".
This is an interesting move as despite that glowing
reference, Butcher did struggle to find a consistent form
since rejoining Lincoln last summer.
If he does well, then Macclesfield will probably keep him
on, providing that they can agree terms with Butcher; if
he does not, then he will return to Lincoln in a month's
time. Either way, I cannot see Butcher representing
Lincoln City FC again, or at least while Sutton is the
manager.
