| Born: 11th May
1989 in Dublin. Previous clubs: Home Farm,
Manchester United, Hamilton Academical and Jerez
Industrial CF.
International
Honours: 2 Under-21 caps for Republic of Ireland.
Signed: June 2009.
Chris Fagan is a
Republic of Ireland Under-21 International having
won two caps at this level before joining Lincoln
City. Earlier in his career Fagan represented his
country at Under-17 and Under-19 levels.
He began his
career at Irish club Home Farm as a teenager but
was plucked from the club by Manchester United
when he was sixteen. Although he never made a
first team appearance for Manchester United, he
was a vital player in their 2006/07 season's
Youth Cup team. Unfortunately for Fagan, he was
on the losing side as Liverpool defeated his
Manchester United side via penalties in the Youth
Cup Final.
Worse news though
was to follow as in June 2008: Fagan was released
by Manchester United. Despite having offers from
other clubs, he rather unusually opted to join
Glenn Hoddle's Soccer Academy in Spain. The
academy helps young players like Fagan to receive
professional coaching in the aim of them
returning to the professional game in return for
a transfer fee.
Early 2009 saw
Fagan have a trial at Huddersfield Town where he
scored a hat-trick in a reserve game. He has also
featured on trial for Colchester United. Fagan
ended the 2008/09 season on the books of Scottish
Premier League club Hamilton Academical, although
he failed to make a first team appearance.
Lincoln City paid
an undisclosed fee to Glenn Hoddle's Academy for
the signature of Fagan.
He became an
instant first team regular under then Lincoln
manager Peter Jackson. Unfortunately, Fagan found
scoring difficult in a struggling Lincoln side
and he paid the price when new manager Chris
Sutton was appointed as he quickly lost his first
team place. Transfer day - 1st February 2010 -
saw Fagan make a shock return to Spain when he
joined Jerez Industrial CF on loan until the end
of the 2009/10 season.
